Whether you are visiting the area or a local, finding activities for the kids to do can seem at times like a daunting task. As a mother I know all too well the importance of finding the right balance of entertainment and physical activity so that your child will stay engaged as well as wear themselves out. A bored kid, is an unhappy kid. Here are 30 places, activities, and things to do around the Seattle-area to keep your little ones, or as the case may be "not so little ones" happy.


Woodland Park Zoo - Seattle (Phinney Ridge)
Woodland Park Zoo is a multi-award winning zoological park and botanical gardens encompassing 92 acres located just 10 minutes north of downtown Seattle in the Phinney Ridge neighborhood. The Children's Museum - Seattle ( Seattle Center)

Fox Hollow is an intimate, park-like, equestrian farm nestled between Squak and Tiger mountains in Issaquah, Washington with many open spaces to run and play, scenic areas to picnic in and explore, tons of family-friendly activities to choose from, and a variety of friendly animals to interact with.


Beach Combing There are several beaches in Seattle perfect for spending the afternoon hunting for shells, driftwood, and sea glass. You may even spot a sea lion or seal.

EMP Museum - Seattle (Seattle Center)
Since opening its doors in 2000, EMP Museum has welcomed more than five million visitors, and has been a key economic driver among Seattle nonprofit arts and culture organizations, with institutional expenditures and audience-member spending resulting in more than six million dollars of local economic impact. The I-5 Colonnade Mountain Bike Park is the first of a new urban model for mountain bike facilities. The park, a total of 2 acres in size, contains over a mile of trail and will be full of a wide range of Technical Trail Features (TTF). This new model focuses not on mileage, but rider experience and progression of one's skills. Each section of the park is being designed so that a mountain biker can ride those features hundreds of times in hundreds of different ways.

NW Puppet Center - North Seattle
Welcome to Northwest Puppet Center, the only organization of its type in the region. This internationally renowned puppet center presents performances by Carter Family Marionettes and esteemed guest artists. In addition, it features a museum, archive and library focused on the puppetry arts. Programs are also brought to communities near and far with touring performances and educational outreach.

Museum of Flight - South Seattle

Ballard Locks - Seattle (Ballard)
The Hiram M. Chittenden Locks, built in 1911 and often nicknamed the Ballard Locks, provides a link for boats between the salt water of Puget Sound and the fresh water of the Ship Canal, which connects eastward to Lake Union and Lake Washington.

Tourists and locals enjoy watching the parade of sailboats, motorboats, tugs, barges and yachts passing through, as the locks' water levels are adjusted to allow their safe passage.

Another popular spot is the fish ladder, built to allow salmon to pass between fresh and salt water, and to navigate the locks. Glass panels below the water line make it possible to watch the fish as they swim through the ladder.

Stone Gardens Climbing Gym - Seattle (Ballard)
We offer a variety of options for young climbers, from absolute beginners, to those with years of experience looking to take their climbing to the next level.

For youths who have no, to very little, previous climbing experience, and are looking to get on the wall and experience the joy of climbing please check out our Pro Belay.

If you are a more experienced climber, or one who is looking for ongoing instruction, once a week for up to two hours, our Junior Programs are an excellent option.

For the most dedicated of youth climbers, ones willing to train up to ten hours a week, and compete against their peers, our Junior Climbing Team might be for you.

Fremont Sunday Ice Cream Cruise - Seattle (South Lake Union)
The Sunday Ice Cream Cruise now departs from S. Lake Union Park. Year round service, the Sunday Ice Cream Cruise will depart on the hour 11am through 3pm Sunday March 4th from South Lake Union. This is a 45-50 minute tour of the Lake Union floating homes, a peek at Dale Chihuly’s studio, Gas Works Park and the Sleepless in Seattle houseboat. The tour includes a humorous narration of old Seattle and some funky background music. Adults $11, Seniors $10, Kids 5-13 $7, under 5 $2. Pets OK. Walk-on only, tickets available on boarding, cash or check only. Ice cream treats, coffee, hot chocolate, tomato soup and soft drinks, $2 to $4.

Kayak Lake Union - Seattle
Exploring Seattle by kayak is fun for kids and adults alike. Both Moss Bay and Agua Verde rent kayaks by the hour.

All inflatable games are lead-free, conform with ASTM standards on amusement devices ASTM F-24, ASTM 698-94, ASTM 853-98, conform with BS-5438 flame resistance and NFPA 701 2 second flameout, and are sanitized before and after each play session. And to ensure cleanliness no food or drinks are allowed in the play areas. Plus all participants are required to wear socks to ensure health and safety.

Several book stores and libraries offer story time for toddlers.

  1. Only downsides here was that I’m not sure if they were expecting such a crowd as they did not have nearly enough servers and sometimes it would take a really long time for service guy to come. But at the venue NYC they tried to keep a smiles on their face.
